The following is a correspondence
from our dear
friend in Israel, Rabbi Trugman, who shares with us his insights about the
letter Kuf. As his thoughts relate to Purim, it seemed appropriate to put them
out to you this week rather than wait till the end of the month of Adar when
we
will send the next installment of Alef Bytes. Remember and don't forget our
questions: What does the letter Kuf in the word Tzechok (Tzadi-Chet-Kuf)
instructs us about laughter? We examined the word Chakak, which means to
engrave, and its two root word Chok (Chet-Kuf) which means law (more
specifically a law that seems to defy logic).
The Letter Kuf
and Purim
The Kuf represents, by it's being the only letter (other than final letters)
to go below the line, the descent of the tzaddik (whose name ends in a kuf)
into the realm of the fallen sparks and in so doing lift them up to full rectification.
This is itself the secret of the entire story of Purim, ie. Esther entering into a relationship with Achashverosh (the depths of impurity) and her manipulation of Haman (the depths of evil) till he is hung on the gallows (which look remarkably like a kuf!). And by Mordecai continually returning to the gate of the king to monitor what was happening with Esther. The entire story is a model of the work the Mashiach will do at the end of days - that is the final descent of the kuf into material reality in order to rectify all physicality and uplift it to spirituality.
The last letter of Yitzchak's name is a Kuf and it represents Yitzchak redigging, deep into the earth and reality, all the wells of Avraham his father that the Phillistines had stuffed up. Only through great persistence was he able to accomplish this and thus establish forever the Jewish tradition in the world.
It later says Yitzchak sowed in that year and reaped a hundred fold. 100=the numerical value of Kuf. This symbolizes the viability of the tradition that Avraham gave over to his son and the full manifestation of his giving birth to him at the age of 100.
In relation to Purim, 100 = 10 times 10 and in this way represents the hanging of the 10 sons of Haman. Any number squared relates to the full array of the squared number, in this case 10 and the uprooting of their evil plan.
Of course this is all the tip of
the iceberg. May we merit this Purim to dig deep inside
to reveal the hidden potential symbolized by the Kuf.
PURIM SAME'ACH!!
Avraham
